The Torbay Conservative Team, led by Kevin Foster MP. and Cllr. Dave Thomas as Group Leader, is focused on offering a positive platform for residents, based on a vision for our bay which puts local people at the heart of everything we do.
This includes delivering the packages of support offered to help residents deal with the rising costs of living, with vulnerable local families having received up to an additional £1,200 in cost of living payments last year and households on low incomes in our bay will receive further cost-of-living support, worth up to £1,350, from this spring. We have also been pleased to support the £5.25m Torbay Household Support Fund at a local level which is being made possible by Government funding."
The last 8 years has seen our bay secure significant investment at a national level, thanks to having an active voice in parliament working on our behalf at the heart of government.
This includes the £21.9m Torquay Town Deal, the £13.4m Paignton Future high streets fund, the £15.7m new Acute Medical Unit at Torbay Hospital and the new station at Edginswell. Yet there is more to be done, in particular securing and delivering the Building a Brighter Future project which could see £350m invested in rebuilding Torbay Hospital, the largest single investment in our bay's health services since the NHS was founded in 1948.
Finally, we note Steve Darling's selection and feel it speaks volumes that despite his decades long political career his statement is a negative party political attack, confirming the lack of a positive offer for local people or record of delivery. It also hints at a sense of desperation, possibly linked to one major polling site currently predicting the Lib Dems will come third in Torbay at the next General Election, amidst poor polling for the Lib Dems nationally.
