Torbay’s MP, Kevin Foster, has today (Wednesday 23rd January 2019) welcomed news of a £50,000 Coastal Revival Funding boost for work on Paignton’s Iconic Seafront.
Torbay Community Partnership will receive £50,000 from the Government’s Coastal Revival Fund to kick-start a restoration project on the iconic Victorian seafront shelters in Paignton. The project, ‘Shelters for Posterity’, aims to restore six Victorian shelters to their original grandeur, improving their current look and use as well as improving the landscape.
The grant is one of 23 being announced in England, taking the number of projects supported in this round of the Coastal Revival Fund to 48, worth almost £2m. The news was confirmed in a letter to Kevin from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, James Brokenshire MP.
Kevin said: “Paignton Sea Front is one of the most iconic parts of our bay, with generations of holiday makers having headed to it for a walk on the Pier or a dip in the sea. Whilst this sea front is much loved, its historic Shelters now need some TLC. I am therefore delighted the Government is backing a community effort to get them looking their best again with this funding.”
