In a big boost for our bay’s economy South Devon College will receive funding from the third round of the Government’s Growth Deal to deliver a new Hi-Tech and Digital Centre.
The centre will be a purpose-built facility at the College’s Campus in Paignton, representing a £17m investment in high end skills training and facilities to support growing local businesses in the hi-tech sector. It is expected to open in September 2019.
The centre has been developed in consultation with over 40 local businesses of all sizes. It will provide students with the skills employers need in a range of local Hi-Tech businesses such as; electronics, lasers, satellite and communications, aerospace and data analysis. Its work will also extend into creative industries including gaming, app design, digital design, smart clothing & textiles and
digital media. Commenting, Torbay MP Kevin Foster said: “This project is not just about building a research and training centre, but sending out a clear message that our bay is looking to be a Silicon Bay where high tech industries can thrive. This funding is a vote of confidence not just in the team
at South Devon College, but in our bay’s economic future.”
